This accolade, presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), not only honors individual excellence but also underscores the power of sound in storytelling.
“India’s Daughter,” directed by Leslee Udwin, delves into the harrowing 2012 Delhi gang rape case that triggered a global conversation on gender violence. Composing and editing music for such a profound and emotionally charged film was a responsibility I approached with a deep sense of duty and sensitivity. The score was crafted to resonate with the film’s intense emotional landscape, enhancing the narrative while respecting the gravity of the subject matter.
The challenge was to weave sound into a dialogue that would not only narrate but also evoke a spectrum of feelings—from sorrow and outrage to a call for change. The musical motifs were designed to reflect the resilience and dignity of Jyoti Singh, echoing her enduring spirit in the face of injustice.
